Victorian (circa early / mid 19th century) blanket box of huge scale! Made of pine and features a hinged lid that opens for massive storage. These types of chests were historically used for storing blankets or bedding but this giant can easily house those christmas decorations in a few weeks time. They are also commonly used today as coffee tables or general storage. The visible faded writing on the front suggests it may have been a workman’s or carpenter’s chest, or a travel trunk, often inscribed with the owner’s name or origin.
The style of the writing and the appearance of the wood suggest it could be an early 19th-century piece, possibly a Biedermeier-style secretary or similar piece of antique furniture. We have positioned it in our kitchen as a centre feature which gives us another much needed surface however it has practical uses in most rooms in the household.
