For sale in this lot is a mid-19th Century solid bronze cast statue of Lord Vishnu. This statue was obtained from a private collector in London. The statue shows a lot of intricate detail and etching across the front and reverse surface of the item. This is a very well handmade 19th century example and not just a mould as most similar statues of this nature are. The item has good weight as you would expect of a quality handmade antique artefact of this nature, it shows a lot of age through patina across sections of the statue (please view all the photos provided as part of this advert).

Vishnu is one of the most popular Hindu gods - more people follow him than any of the other gods! These followers are called Vaishnavas and worship Vishnu as well as his incarnations. Vishnu is part of the trimurti, or the Hindu ''trinity'' which includes Brahma the creator, Shiva the destroyer, and Vishnu the preserver. Stories of Vishnu typically include three wives or consorts: Lakshmi, Ganga, and Saraswati. While he eventually sent the latter two away, Lakshmi remained his wife.

Condition: This item is over 100 years old so expect nature aging across the surface of the item, the item is structurally secure and without any breaks or structural damage.
