Authentic Antique French 19thC Balloon Back Armchair. Napoleon III c1880
Acquired in France this month, a well proportioned, generous/roomy & very comfortable armchair, it is c1880 in date, fine quality & well made, the frame is hardwood, consequently it is a weighty piece.
An unusual design, has the more rare curvaceous back rest & as seen, it has, historically been professionally & sympathetically reupholstered & a pleated skirt included, originally these armchairs had a fringe skirt. It is a firm seat & very comfortable.
The springs to the seat & webbing in perfect order.
A small tear to seat, (see photos) Could be easily re-upholstered but in our opinion the tear does not detract from her beauty.
Legs are ebonised, this is the original finish, would originally have had casters to the feet.
